Shirodkar stitch

A Shirodkar stitch is a medical procedure used during pregnancy to help prevent preterm birth or miscarriage. When a woman has a weak or opening cervix, a doctor places a special stitch or suture high up around the cervix, the lower part of the uterus. This stitch acts as a supportive band to keep the cervix closed as the pregnancy progresses. Usually done surgically, it can be removed later when the pregnancy is closer to term. Overall, the goal is to reduce the risk of early labor by providing extra support to the cervix.
