Shire horse
The Shire horse is a large, powerful draft breed known for its strength, stature, and gentle nature. Originating from England, these horses typically stand around 16 to 18 hands high (5.3 to 6 feet at the shoulder) and have a broad, muscular build. Their coat is usually black, bay, grey, or chestnut, often with prominent feathering—long hair—on their legs. Historically used for heavy farm work and pulling loads, today they are admired for their impressive appearance and calm temperament. Shire horses are often used in parades, shows, and as riding horses for experienced equestrians.
