Shiite theology

Shiite theology centers on the belief that leadership of the Muslim community (ummah) should stay within the family of the Prophet Muhammad, specifically through his descendants, known as Imams. Shiites hold that Imams are divinely appointed, infallible, and possess special spiritual and interpretative authority. They view the Imams as guides for understanding the Quran and Islam’s principles. This contrasts with Sunni beliefs, which emphasize community consensus and elected leaders. Overall, Shiite theology emphasizes divine guidance through the Imams, justice, and the importance of loyalty to the Prophet’s family.
