Shiite clergy

Shiite clergy, known as "mujtahids" or "ayatollahs," are learned religious leaders and scholars trained in Islamic law, theology, and philosophy. They interpret the Quran and Hadith to guide the community in spiritual, ethical, and social matters. Unlike some Christian clergy, Shiite scholars often have the authority to issue religious rulings (fatwas) and influence political issues, especially in countries like Iran. Their role balances religious education, guiding individual faith, and shaping societal norms, making them central figures in both spiritual and political aspects of Shiite communities.
