Sheperd Doeleman

Sheperd Doeleman is an astrophysicist who specializes in studying black holes and the universe's extreme regions. He leads the Event Horizon Telescope project, a global effort using a network of radio telescopes to capture the first image of a black hole’s event horizon—its "point of no return." By combining data from telescopes worldwide, his work allows us to observe and understand phenomena that are otherwise impossible to see, advancing our knowledge of fundamental physics and the nature of spacetime.
