Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab (1703–1792) was an Arab Islamic scholar and reformer from the Arabian Peninsula who founded the Wahhabi movement. He advocated for a return to the pure and original practices of Islam, emphasizing strict worship, the rejection of innovations, and the avoidance of practices he considered polytheistic or superstitious. His teachings aimed to purify Islamic faith and practice, influencing religious thought in Saudi Arabia. While he promoted a conservative interpretation of Islam, his ideas have had lasting religious and political impact in the Muslim world, especially in shaping modern Saudi Arabia’s religious policies.
