Shechita is the Jewish ritual method of slaughtering animals for food, designed to ensure the process is humane and minimizes suffering. A trained, certified individual called a shochet uses a sharp knife to make a swift, precise cut that severs the trachea and esophagus in one motion, causing immediate loss of consciousness.
