Shasta Dam

Shasta Dam is a large concrete structure on the Sacramento River in Northern California. It creates Shasta Lake, one of the largest reservoirs in California, providing water for irrigation, flood control, hydroelectric power, and drinking supplies. Built between 1938 and 1945, the dam is about 602 feet tall and 3,460 feet long. It helps manage water flow, generate electricity through turbines, and supports regional water needs. Shasta Dam also plays a role in controlling seasonal floods and maintaining water availability during dry periods. Its engineering and size make it a key component of California’s water infrastructure.
