Shang Religion

Shang religion centered around ancestor worship and a belief in spirits and deities who influenced the natural world and human fate. The Shang people honored ancestors through offerings and rituals, believing their spirits could affect living conditions. They also worshipped gods associated with weather, agriculture, and kingship, seeking their favor for good harvests and protection. Divination, often using oracle bones, was a key practice to communicate with spirits and interpret the gods’ will. This religious system was deeply integrated with political authority, reinforcing the king’s divine connection and societal order.
