shale gas production

Shale gas production involves extracting natural gas trapped within densely layered sedimentary rocks called shale. The process begins with drilling deep into the shale formations, then using a method called hydraulic fracturing (fracking), where water, sand, and chemicals are injected at high pressure to create fractures. These fractures allow the gas to flow into the well and be collected. The technique unlocks previously inaccessible gas reserves, providing a significant energy source. While efficient, shale gas extraction also raises environmental concerns like groundwater safety and seismic activity.
