SGLT1 (sodium-glucose cotransporter 1)
SGLT1, or sodium-glucose cotransporter 1, is a protein found mainly in the small intestine. Its main role is to absorb glucose—the sugar our bodies use for energy—from food. It works by simultaneously transporting sodium ions and glucose across cell membranes, using the movement of sodium to help bring glucose into cells efficiently. This process is essential for us to extract and utilize nutrients from our diet. In addition, SGLT1 helps maintain proper glucose levels in the body, supporting energy production and overall health.
