Servetus (Michael Servetus)
Michael Servetus was a 16th-century Spanish scholar known for his work in medicine and theology. He challenged established religious doctrines, particularly the doctrine of the Trinity, advocating for a more rational understanding of God. His writings, which criticized traditional church teachings, led to his persecution by both religious and political authorities. Servetus was ultimately executed by burning in 1553 in Geneva, under the influence of Protestant reformer John Calvin. Despite his tragic death, he is remembered today as an early advocate for religious tolerance, free thought, and the advancement of scientific inquiry.
