Serging

Serging is a sewing technique that uses a specialized machine called a serger or overlock machine to finish the edges of fabric. It trims excess fabric and encases the edge with multiple threads, creating a neat, professional-looking seam that prevents fraying. Serging is especially useful for stretchy fabrics or garments that require durability, such as activewear or t-shirts. The process speeds up sewing by combining seam and edge finishing in one step, resulting in clean, strong stitches that enhance the garment’s overall quality.
