Serbian War Crimes Tribunal

The Serbian War Crimes Tribunal, officially the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), was established by the United Nations in 1993 to prosecute individuals responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law during the Yugoslav Wars (1991-2001). It aimed to ensure accountability for crimes such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed mainly in Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo. The tribunal conducted investigations, held trials, and delivered judgments to promote justice, uphold international law, and support reconciliation in the region. It officially closed in 2017 after completing its mandate.
