Serb Krajina

Serb Krajina was a self-proclaimed Serbian-claimed territory within Croatia during the early 1990s, amid the breakup of Yugoslavia. Predominantly inhabited by ethnic Serbs, it declared independence in 1991, leading to conflict with Croatian authorities. The region experienced significant violence and ethnic tensions, with Croatian forces eventually retaking the area in 1995 during Operation Storm. The conflict resulted in many displaced persons and remains a sensitive chapter in the history of the Balkans. Serb Krajina no longer exists as a political entity; its legacy influences regional relations and reconciliation efforts today.
