Serapium

A serapeum is an ancient Egyptian temple or burial site dedicated to the worship of a specific deity or to the tombs of sacred animals. The most famous is the Serapeum of Saqqara, which housed the burial chambers of Apis bulls—sacred animals considered incarnations of the god Ptah. These sites functioned as religious centers, combining worship, rituals, and burial practices designed to honor gods or divine beings associated with animals or deities. They reflect Egypt’s spiritual beliefs and reverence for divine symbols, often featuring elaborate tombs and sacred architecture.
