Septimania

Septimania was a region in the south of modern-day France, historically significant during the early Middle Ages. It was originally settled by the Visigoths, a Germanic tribe, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The area, roughly encompassing parts of present-day Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence, became a cultural crossroads, blending Roman, Gothic, and later Frankish influences. Septimania played a critical role in the power struggles between the Visigoths, Franks, and later the Arabs during the 8th century, contributing to the shaping of medieval Europe. Its legacy is reflected in the rich cultural and historical tapestry of southern France.
