Sentinel Node Biopsy

Sentinel Node Biopsy is a medical procedure used to determine if cancer has spread from its original tumor to nearby lymph nodes. During the procedure, a doctor injects a radioactive substance or dye near the tumor to locate the first lymph node that drains the area, called the sentinel node. This node is then surgically removed and examined for cancer cells. If cancer is found, additional treatment may be needed. This technique helps avoid larger surgeries and allows for a more targeted approach to cancer treatment.
