Sensorimotor Development

Sensorimotor development refers to how infants learn about and understand the world through their senses and movements. In this stage, babies explore by touching, grasping, sucking, and observing, which helps them build essential skills like coordination, balance, and spatial awareness. This process begins at birth and continues as they grow, shaping their understanding of object permanence (knowing objects exist even when unseen) and cause-and-effect relationships. It’s a foundational period where sensory experiences and motor actions work together to support cognitive and emotional development.
