Sensitization
Sensitization is a psychological process where repeated exposure to a stimulus increases an individual's response to that stimulus. Unlike habituation, where a response diminishes over time, sensitization leads to heightened awareness and reactivity. For example, if someone experiences a shocking event, they may become more sensitive to similar stimuli, reacting strongly even if those stimuli are less intense. This can occur in various contexts, such as in response to loud noises or stressful situations, and is an important concept in understanding how experiences can shape behavior and emotional responses.
