Sendai Earthquake

The Sendai Earthquake, also known as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, was a powerful magnitude 9.0 undersea seismic event off Japan's northeast coast. It was caused by tectonic plate movements along a subduction zone where the Pacific Plate is sliding under the North American Plate. This sudden release of energy generated a massive tsunami, leading to widespread destruction and loss of life. The event also triggered a nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. The earthquake highlighted the importance of advanced early warning systems and disaster preparedness in earthquake-prone regions.
