semeiotics

Semeiotics, or semiotics, is the study of signs and how they create meaning. It explores how things like words, images, symbols, and gestures function as signs to communicate ideas, emotions, or information. For example, a traffic light’s color signals different actions—red means stop, green means go—based on agreed-upon meanings. Semiotics examines how these signs work within cultures and contexts to produce understanding, helping us interpret everything from language and art to advertising and social behavior. In essence, it’s a framework for analyzing how meaning is generated through signs and systems of communication.
