Semantic Paradox
A semantic paradox is a self-referential statement that creates a contradiction or confusion because of its meaning. For example, the statement “This statement is false” is paradoxical because if it’s true, then it must be false, and if it’s false, then it must be true. These paradoxes challenge our understanding of language, truth, and meaning, highlighting that some statements can undermine their own logical consistency. They’re important in philosophy and logic because they reveal complexities in how we define and interpret statements about truth and knowledge.
