Sellarsian Incompatibilism

Sellarsian Incompatibilism is a philosophical view that challenges the idea that free will can coexist with determinism—that all events are caused by prior ones. Based on philosopher Wilfrid Sellars' thought, it argues that to genuinely have free will, our choices must not be fully determined by past events. Instead, free agency involves our capacity for rational commitment and self-determined reasons. Thus, if everything is pre-determined, true free will isn't possible; but if our reasons and decisions originate from within us independently, free will can exist, making determinism and free agency incompatible.
