Seismometers

A seismometer is an instrument that detects and records the vibrations caused by seismic waves generated earthquakes or other ground movements. It consists of a sensitive mass suspended inside a frame connected to the Earth. When the ground moves, the frame shifts, but the mass tends to stay still due to inertia. This relative motion is converted into an electrical signal, which is then recorded as a seismogram. Seismometers help scientists measure the strength and location of earthquakes, providing critical data for understanding Earth's interior and improving early warning systems.
