Seismometer
A seismometer is an instrument that detects and records the vibrations caused by earthquakes or other ground movements. It consists of a sensitive mass suspended inside a frame; when the Earth moves, the frame shakes but the mass tends to stay still due to inertia. This relative motion between the mass and frame is converted into electrical signals, creating a seismogram. Seismometers help scientists monitor Earth's activity, measure the strength of earthquakes, and study the planet’s internal structure. They are essential tools in seismology for understanding and tracking seismic events worldwide.
