sedevacantism

Sedevacantism is a viewpoint held by some traditional Catholics who believe that recent popes since Vatican II (1962-1965) are not legitimate and that the papal office has been vacant since then. They argue that these popes have deviated from authentic Catholic doctrine and morals, effectively nullifying their authority. As a result, sedevacantists often reject the post-Vatican II Church's teachings and seek to maintain traditional practices. This perspective is controversial within Catholicism, as most recognize the papal succession as ongoing and valid, despite disagreements over reforms and doctrines introduced since Vatican II.
