Security Assistance Force

The Security Assistance Force (SAF) was a military organization established by NATO in 2003 to help stabilize and rebuild Afghanistan. It comprised troops from multiple allied countries working together to train Afghan security forces, improve security, and support Afghanistan’s government. SAF's main goal was to assist in maintaining peace, combat insurgent groups, and promote stability during Afghanistan’s transition period. It operated alongside other NATO commands and was a key part of the international effort to support Afghan sovereignty and security until its role gradually transitioned to Afghan-led initiatives.
