Section 101 of the Patent Act

Section 101 of the Patent Act defines what kinds of inventions can be patented. Specifically, it states that anyone who invents a new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter can obtain a patent. This section ensures that innovations that are novel and useful, including scientific or technological advancements, are protected, encouraging creativity and investment in new ideas. However, it excludes abstract ideas, natural phenomena, and laws of nature from patent protection to prevent monopolizing fundamental concepts that should remain available for all to use.
