Second Schleswig War

The Second Schleswig War (1864) was a conflict between Denmark and Prussia (later joined by Austria) over control of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein, which had mixed Danish and German populations. Denmark sought to incorporate Schleswig into its kingdom, but Germany wanted these territories under their influence. The war ended with a Danish defeat, leading to Denmark losing control of Schleswig and Holstein. This conflict heightened tensions in Europe, contributed to the realignment of power in the region, and paved the way for future German unification efforts.
