Sebastiano del Piombo

Sebastiano del Piombo (1485-1547) was an Italian painter and sculptor of the High Renaissance, known for his unique blend of Venetian color and Roman classicism. Originally a student of the Venetian master Giovanni Bellini, he later moved to Rome, where he became close with influential figures like Michelangelo. Del Piombo’s notable works include religious subjects, characterized by dramatic effects and powerful figures. His technique often involved the use of oil paint on canvas, which was innovative for his time. He played a significant role in the transition from Renaissance to Mannerism in art.
