John Searle is a philosopher known for exploring questions about mind and language. He proposed that while computers can simulate understanding and conversation, they do not genuinely "understand" or have consciousness. His famous thought experiment, the "Chinese Room," imagines a person inside a room following rules to produce Chinese responses without understanding the language. This illustrates that computational processes alone do not equate to true understanding or thought.
