SeaGen
SeaGen was an offshore tidal energy system located in Northern Ireland designed to generate electricity from the ocean's tides. It used underwater turbines, similar to wind turbines but submerged, which spun as the tide flowed in and out. These turbines were mounted on adjustable towers to handle changing water levels. By harnessing the consistent movement of tides, SeaGen converted kinetic energy into electrical power, contributing to renewable energy sources. It demonstrated the potential for tidal power to provide predictable, environmentally friendly electricity, though it was eventually decommissioned after successful testing and operation.
