Sea wasp (Chironex fleckeri)
The Sea Wasp, or Chironex fleckeri, is a highly venomous box jellyfish found off the northern coasts of Australia. Recognizable by its translucent, cube-shaped bell and long, flowing tentacles, it can grow up to 30 centimeters in diameter. Its tentacles contain potent toxins that can cause severe pain, heart issues, and sometimes death in humans. The Sea Wasp employs stinging cells on its tentacles to quickly immobilize prey like small fish. Despite its dangerous reputation, it typically stings only when touched or provoked, and prompt medical treatment significantly reduces health risks.
