Sea Silk

Sea silk is a rare, luxurious fiber historically harvested from the mucous thread produced by certain large mollusks, primarily the Pinna nobilis, a type of Mediterranean clam. When these mollusks produce their protective mucus, sometimes they secrete long, strong fibers that can be carefully collected and spun into fine, durable textiles. Historically, sea silk was highly prized for its softness and luster, often used in ceremonial garments by ancient cultures like the Greeks and Romans. Today, it remains a rare material, valued for its unique origin and extraordinary qualities, though it is difficult and labor-intensive to produce.
