Sea of Serenity

Sea of Serenity, known as Mare Serenitatis on the Moon, is a large, flat basaltic plain formed by ancient volcanic activity. It appears as a smooth, dark oval area visible from Earth and is one of the Moon’s prominent lunar maria. Its basalt deposits resulted from lava flows that filled low-lying impact basins billions of years ago, creating a relatively flat landscape. The Sea of Serenity is notable for its scientific interest, including the landing site of Apollo 17, and provides insights into the Moon’s volcanic history and geologic evolution.
