Sea oats
Sea oats are perennial grasses native to coastal areas of the southeastern United States. Characterized by tall, swinging stems and long, graceful leaves, they thrive in sandy, dune environments. Their extensive root systems stabilize shifting sands, helping to build and maintain dunes that protect inland areas from storm surge and erosion. Beyond their ecological role, sea oats are also a symbol of coastal protection and conservation efforts. They are protected by law in many regions because of their importance in maintaining healthy, resilient beaches and shoreline ecosystems.
