Sea Mines

Sea mines are explosive devices strategically placed on or just below the ocean floor or floating on the water’s surface. They are designed to detect ships or submarines passing nearby and detonate, causing damage or sinking vessels. Mines can be anchored in known shipping lanes or scattered across contested areas as a defensive measure. Modern mines often use sophisticated sensors to distinguish between targets, reducing false activations. They are an important part of maritime defense, but pose significant risks to commercial and military vessels if inadvertently triggered or left unexploded. Clearing mines requires specialized equipment and expertise to ensure safety.
