SDP-Liberal Alliance

The SDP-Liberal Alliance was a political partnership in the UK during the early 1980s, formed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Liberal Party to challenge the dominant Conservative and Labour parties. It aimed to promote centrist policies, social justice, and electoral reform, particularly proportional representation. The alliance allowed the two parties to collaborate more effectively in elections, increasing their influence and sharing resources. Although it eventually led to the merger creating the Liberal Democrats in 1988, the alliance marked a significant effort to provide a broader political alternative in Britain.
