δ Scuti (variable star)
δ Scuti stars are a type of variable star that fluctuates in brightness over short periods, usually from about 30 minutes to several hours. They are typically stars similar in size to our Sun, but often slightly larger and more luminous, located in a specific region of the sky known as the "instability strip" on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. These stars experience pulsations caused by internal processes, leading to rhythmic expansions and contractions of their outer layers. The resulting brightness variations provide valuable insights into stellar structure and evolution, making δ Scuti stars important objects of study in astrophysics.
