John Duns Scotus was a medieval Scottish philosopher and theologian known for his work on understanding how humans know things and the nature of God. He emphasized the importance of individual human experience and the complexity of moral and theological issues. Scotus contributed to ideas about the sovereignty of God's will, the nature of divine justice, and the concept of "univocity of being," meaning that words used about God and creatures share a common meaning.
