Scottish Assembly
The Scottish Assembly, officially called the Scottish Parliament, is the devolved governing body responsible for decision-making on many issues within Scotland, such as education, health, and transportation. It was established in 1999 to give Scotland a greater degree of self-rule, while the UK Parliament in Westminster retains control over reserved matters like defense and foreign policy. The Parliament is composed of Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) elected by Scottish residents, and it functions as a legislative body, passing laws, scrutinizing the government, and representing the interests of Scottish citizens.
