Scleroderma
Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the skin and connective tissues. In this condition, the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, leading to excessive collagen production. This results in thick, tight skin and may also affect internal organs, causing various health issues. Scleroderma can vary in severity and symptoms, including swelling, pain, and changes in skin color. While the exact cause is unknown, genetics and environmental factors may play a role. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and improving quality of life, as there is currently no cure for the disease.
