Scindia State

Scindia State was a small princely state in India, ruled by the Scindia (or Sindhia) family, part of the Maratha Empire’s elite. Located mainly in central India, it existed from the 18th century until India’s independence in 1947. The Scindia rulers held a nominal, hereditary title under the British colonial system, managing local affairs while recognizing British sovereignty. After independence, Scindia State merged into the Indian Union, with its leaders playing significant roles in modern Indian politics. The state’s history reflects the integration of regional princely states into the broader Indian nation-building process.
