Science of Sound

Sound is the movement of vibrations through a medium like air, water, or solids. When an object vibrates, it creates pressure waves that travel outward. These waves reach our ears, causing tiny particles inside the ear to vibrate. Our brain interprets these vibrations as sound. Pitch depends on the frequency of vibrations—faster vibrations produce higher sounds. Volume relates to the amplitude of the waves—larger vibrations mean louder sounds. The science of sound involves understanding how these waves are produced, travel, and are perceived, enabling us to study everything from musical tones to communication and environmental noise.
