SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency)

Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) is a rare genetic disorder where the immune system is severely weakened or absent. This means the body can't effectively fight infections made by common bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Infants with SCID often develop serious, recurrent infections early in life. Because their immune defenses are compromised, they require urgent medical treatment, such as a bone marrow transplant, to restore immune function. Without treatment, SCID can be life-threatening, but early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve outcomes.
