Schutztruppe
The Schutztruppe were the colonial military forces of the German Empire, established in Africa and other territories from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Their primary role was to defend German colonial interests, maintain order, and support colonial administration. Comprising both European officers and local recruits, they served in various campaigns, often fighting against indigenous resistance or rival colonial powers. The Schutztruppe played a significant role in Germany’s attempt to secure and control overseas territories, notably in German East Africa, South West Africa, and Cameroon. Their operations reflected the military structure and colonial policies of the time.
