Schleswig-Holstein War

The Schleswig-Holstein War (1848-1851) was a conflict between Denmark and a coalition of German states over the status of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. These regions had mixed Danish and German populations, and disputes arose about governance and national identity. Denmark aimed to assert control over both duchies, while German nationals sought greater independence or unification. The war ended with a pragmatic compromise; Denmark retained Schleswig, but the status of Holstein remained disputed, leading to ongoing tensions.
