Schleswig-Holstein Conflict
The Schleswig-Holstein Conflict was a 19th-century territorial dispute primarily between Denmark and the German Confederation over the regions of Schleswig and Holstein. Historically, Schleswig was Danish-speaking but also had a significant German-speaking population, while Holstein was predominantly German. Tensions arose as nationalist movements grew, with Germany seeking to unify German speakers and Denmark wanting to maintain its control. The conflict led to several wars, including the Second Schleswig War in 1864, resulting in Denmark losing these territories to Prussia and Austria. The dispute contributed to broader nationalistic struggles and regional tensions in Central Europe.
