A Schelling Point, also known as a focal point, is a solution or choice that people naturally tend to pick when trying to coordinate with others without communicating. It’s something obvious or salient that everyone expects the others to consider as well. For example, if two people are told to meet in New York City without specifying a location, they might both choose the Empire State Building because it’s a well-known landmark. Schelling Points work because they rely on shared knowledge, common expectations, or cultural cues to help coordinate decisions in situations with no direct communication.
